Dnata, a global company that provides air and travel services, announced that in the next two years, it will invest $100 million in green operations. This will further enhance environmental efficiency across its global network. As a result of ongoing investments in infrastructure, equipment, and process improvement, the company will achieve its strategic objectives and reduce its carbon footprint by 20 percent by 2024, and by 50 percent by 2030. In recent years, dnata has invested significantly in advanced technologies to optimize resources and improve operational efficiency across its facilities.
Several of its existing facilities in the UK, Singapore, and Ireland have been retrofitted with renewable energy features, such as solar panels, heat recovery units, and electric vehicle charging stations. Carbon reduction initiatives will also be incorporated in the construction and operation of its newly announced cargo centers in the Netherlands and Iraq. Choosing green options is also a major factor in dnata’s fleet planning. To further decrease emissions, the company has invested in electric and hybrid ramps, ground support equipment (GSE) and forklifts as well as refurbished existing GSE with updated technologies. In the USA and UAE, dnata became the first ground handler to successfully complete green aircraft turnarounds using only zero-emission ground support equipment.
To minimize its environmental footprint, Dnata’s catering team has invested in process improvements. In order to optimize in-flight catering, the company works closely with many of its airline customers to analyze consumption trends and use predictive data. On-board data analysis reduces not only food waste, but also fuel burn associated with excess weight. Dnata has also taken initiatives across its business units to conserve water consumption and recycle materials such as paper, plastic, cardboard, wood, glass, metal, and cooking and mineral oils. The company announced earlier this year that it would reduce its waste to landfills by 20 percent by 2024. During the financial year 2021-22, the customer-oriented teams at dnata handled over 527,000 aircraft turns, moved 3 million tonnes of cargo, lifted 39.9 million meals, and recorded a total transaction value (TTV) of travel services of $632 million.
